basel has the soccer, zürich has the mass culture and bern the poetry.

an indicator for this statement, at least for the one concerning bern is, that in bern > poetry slams are institutionalized. that means that they take place on a regular basis. this coverage is based on an exceptional event, but that doesn't matter. it took place in the heiliggeist church and was also supported by some bible groups. as a consequence of this fact we had to listen to missionary poets, who wanted to palm off some biblic wisdom.
i think now it's about time to explain what an > poetry slam is about. in our case there competed 12 poets against each other. every body could use the microphone for 6 minutes. the audience wasn't only listening but also judgeing. the price for the winner was a bottle of vin santo.
the evening was moderated by a charismatic and really funny toni caradonna. he could present poets like > christoph simon, bettina gugger, sandra küenzi (who was my personal discovery of that night, when also harry potter's newest adventure was published in switzerland) and pedro lenz.
as i passed by the > loebegge i saw a lot of impatient kids waiting for harry and i started to wait impatiently for the next slam - check the dates at menschenversand (link).
